As part of the PPP team, we were involved in all stages of the design and preparation as well as the comprehensive delivery of this new, 1,000-pupil high school.
The building was erected adjacent to the existing school, which was then demolished to allow construction of new playing fields and open space for pupils. The proximity to the existing school and primary school in a busy housing area presented many challenges, none more so than maintaining the highest standards of health and safety.
Accommodation provided includes: general classroom areas, specialist facilities for CDT, music, home economics and the sciences. A full size sports hall to Sports Scotland standards, 25m swimming pool with changing facilities, gymnasium areas, separate gym halls on the first floor and dance studios were also provided.
Construction is generally of steel frame with concrete floors and a range of external finishes. Special features included a link bridge forming the Art & Design spaces and an entrance canopy 10m above the staff/visitor entrance.
Our team overcame many complexities and challenges in this project and delivered is successfully under the critical eye of the local community. |
