We carried out this demanding project in a live school environment, and sectional completion was necessary. The project took place over two years, and encompassed works to all of the existing facilities as well as providing additional accommodation such as Dance/Drama studios, new office areas and both staff and pupil entrances.

Considerations included restrictions on working hours, noise minimisation and examination timetables – all of which called for detailed programming. Health & Safety was paramount, with clear segregation between site activities and the day-to-day running of the school. Communication with the school management and staff was very close and worked particularly well.

New sections of work were of structural steel and concrete floors with rendered blockwork, facing brickwork and aluminium/timber cladding. Existing facilities were stripped back to the structure and reconstructed as new, and the existing envelope was fully repaired and upgraded.

A decant village was also provided affording the opportunity to access a number of areas of the school. Delivering 12 full and 6 sub sections of work, on programme, in this very challenging environment, was a major achievement for our team.
